Drops Lawsuit - Posted by Denz on Sunday, March 20 2005
Eminem has formally withdrawn his lawsuit against hip-hop magazine The Source for alleged copyright infringement.
He had launched legal proceedings against the magazine after it had distributed several of his early recordings through their January 2004 issue without permission.

However, Eminem's lawyer, Donald David, said last Friday that all charges against the magazine had been withdrawn.

"There is nothing left to win," David said. "The judge already decided we have the copyright, and he awarded us $131,000 in sanctions. So the case has no purpose anymore."

However, Source founder and co-owner Dave Mays has criticised Eminem's decision.

"They want this withdrawal so they can avoid the public embarrassment of having Eminem on trial in New York," Mays said.

Mays said that the final decision will rest with Judge Gerard Lynch, when he decides this week whether the case has been withdrawn "with prejudice".

Sorry To Daughter - Posted by Denz on Sunday, March 20 2005
As if rap superstar/actor/producer Eminem hasn't already proven his endless stream of talents, he is now about to make his directorial debut with his new video "Mockingbird".

The song, a lament to his daughter Hailie apologizing for not being around when she was growing up, will be accompanied by an equally moving video.

The concept, conceived by Eminem himself, will delve into the rapper's personal life through a collection of his own home videos. Over 25 hours of footage was edited down by co-director Quig and will include clips of his daughter Hailie, niece Laney and even his ex-wife Kim.

The co-directors hope the video will act as an accompaniment to the words of the song, and will help aid in the story Eminem is trying to tell. It will also feature images from a photo album Hailie made for her father.

"He could be a director on a regular basis," Quig told MTV of his partner Eminem. "He really sees the whole picture, no matter what he's working on."

50 Cent Video Game - Posted by Denz on Wednesday, March 2 2005
50 Cent is to star in his very own videogame called Bulletproof which is thought to be under production at Vivendi Universal.

Rumours about a 50 Cent game have been doing the rounds since 2003 when the G-Unit lynchpin mentioned in an interview that he was planning to appear in a "GTA-style videogame". Naturally, everyone assumed that he would appear in San Andreas, but that failed to materialise.

In fact, in a sensational snub that only someone of Fiddy's stature could pull off, MTV.com is reporting that the rapper actually turned down the lead vocal role of CJ in the massive-selling, gang-bangin' masterpiece.

"I'm out to destroy the competition and my videogame is no different," said 50 Cent, who survived being shot nine times and has since sold a shedload of albums. "I plan to shake up the video game world like I did the rap world."
The game (the full title is 50 Cent: Bulletproof) is said to be in production at Vivendi Universal, although the company is staying tight-lipped about its involvement. However, Vivendi has promised to unveil "information about an explosive new collaboration from Vivendi Universal Games and one of the hottest hip-hop artists of all time" this Friday. Hmmm, what could that be?

While gameplay details for Bulletproof are thin on the ground and formats have not yet been announced, MTV.com is carrying the first trailer and a couple of tasty info nuggets. Apparently, the game will "follow the rapper through the NYC criminal underworld to uncover an ugly, international conspiracy".

The trailer - which has been heavily edited to remove violent moments, swearword-laden rhymes and, possibly, Vivendi's logo - shows 50 entering an office building and kicking some arse with guns, his feet, and his fists. Given the rapper's "GTA-style" comment we're expecting a third-person action game with plenty of shooting and hand-to-hand combat.

Other famous names will also appear in Bulletproof, including Dr. Dre, other members of G-Unit (but probably not The Game since he got dropped from the group) and reportedly Eminem.

Naturally, 50 and his mates will provide the tunes for the game and a mixing lab is promised where players will be able to cut together freestyle rhymes and beats.
