The pictures are very beautiful, I love the way they're drawn. The creators of anime put so much more effort into creating their characters than the creators of American cartoons. Mr. Meyahgee 07-26-2002, 05:16 PM i love the time and effert they put into it as wel,.. i mean watch ed, edd, and eddy,...they look like it took 20 sec's to draw,.. and when you watch dbz or vampire hunter d.,,..look at the detail's in all of them,... but one default in it is they all have the sae style of face... all well it's still dope T1 Req 07-26-2002, 08:38 PM Originally posted by -NinjaMic- lol... I wish I could find those... rented them when I was 12. Little did I know what they were like. I guess at least I wasn't 12. The only anime I've really seen is borrowed from a friend of mine.... 1. I forget the name, some fucked up shit about a psychic girl who has a friend in a little boy (this boy's gang-related friends at one point want to know if he's got a hardon with this girl and they rip off his trousers...you don't see it, all you can hear is "small, very small!" lmfao). The boy dies in a massive plane crash which causes the girl to level Hong Kong, she then runs away and is found by the military....some shit happens and a massive aircraft carrier turns organic, covered in blood and guts and shit. Quite disturbing, really. 2. Adventure Duo. Damn, this is amazingly funny. It's impossible to even explain the storyline, it's so crazy...the spirit of a mad scientist possesses a computer and sucks four people into an alternate dimension where they meet a horny demon girl who keeps having sex with the hero who, despite having a girlfriend, never even bothers to resist. They manage to escape and destroy the scientist in the Hiroshima explosion.....argh I'm going mad just imagining it... 3. Devil Man. Surprisingly normal, the only major problems the main character has are his apparent lack of genitals and his ability to turn into a demon-fighting super-warrior. Pretty damn good, actually. If a little disgustingly paedophilic about this 14-year old girl and her impure bathroom thoughts of the hero. Ewww. 4. Urotsukidoji. Overfiend and Demon Womb. I don't even want to talk about these. WickidGirlShady 07-26-2002, 10:15 PM Originally posted by MENTOL i love the time and effert they put into it as wel,.. i mean watch ed, edd, and eddy,...they look like it took 20 sec's to draw,.. and when you watch dbz or vampire hunter d.,,..look at the detail's in all of them,... but one default in it is they all have the sae style of face... all well it's still dope Yeah, that's a good example. All the stupid Cartton Network cartoons look like they took 20 seconds to draw. Anime has way more time put into it. The plots have way more time put into them also! Most American cartoons DON'T have plots! Anime plots are so unique, and a lot of times they're hard to understand, but its worth it to watch. I guess you could consider that them having all the same faces is a default, but that's what makes anime stand out. When you see a cartoon character with the extremely huge eyes, you know its anime. :) -NinjaMic- 07-26-2002, 11:39 PM I hate when other anime fans badmouth and generalize western art... or on the flipside glorify anime - It's to animation what backpackers are to hip-hop. Don't even get me started on manga and comics... Art? Joe Maduereria, Chris Bachalo, and Greg Capullo. Plot? Preacher, Creech, & 300. Watch Plague Dogs or something, then try and tell me how bad western animation is. As if all anime is plot driven anyway... even if it's not as ludicrious as our 99% immature drivel - 20% of the anime market is geared towards children and adolescants... Not to mention the overwhelming amount of sadistic pornography that takes up nearly 50% of the market. The stellar anime we recieve here (amidst the crap that we also get), is only 10% of what's being released in Japan. It's such an enormous market, that You've got 20 "B" movies, and 1 grade A classic. It's not an exclusive club for filmakers and artists, it's an industry like every other. 'cause seriously.... What makes Sailor Moon superior to Power Puff Girls? Speed lines, big eyes and tiny noses? Anime is only a style... quality is a given, and Disney animation standards still shit on any anime, regardless of how stupid they are plot-wise. Such a waste of an art form... :/ The American public is what limits western animation. Animation and cartooning isn't considered an art, so investing in teams of nearly 200 professional animators, designers, and writers for a mature, thought provoking animated film would get you laughed at. Don't underestimate the creators who would love to do such a thing though... T1 Req 07-26-2002, 11:44 PM btw, anime fans in here and all...me and my friend have been wondering this for months: when in anime you see a large drop of water appear on someone's face, what exactly does it signify? I know it's to show agitation or something like that but why do they put it there? -NinjaMic- 07-26-2002, 11:45 PM ...and big eyes aren't indicative of anime. I could draw a character with big eyes right now. The big eyes were just a technique that Otomo started. Thinking that the eyes are the window to the soul, large, sparkly eyes were to show purity, while slanty, dim eyes displayed evil and darkness. You have to keep in mind the philosophies that the viewers eye is directed to create it's own motions, rather than only the animation frames themselves creating their own motions. Also the priority of having a more detailed and realized world, with characters being secondary in detail. As opposed to the western emphasis on detailed characters, and less attention to detail in the evironments. Stuff like that is what makes Anime... there are animes that don't ever use the big-eye/tiny-nose&mouth style, but do have the more japanese ideals in visual storytelling. -NinjaMic- 07-26-2002, 11:47 PM Originally posted by Mister Bob Gray btw, anime fans in here and all...me and my friend have been wondering this for months: when in anime you see a large drop of water appear on someone's face, what exactly does it signify?
