i wrote this like last year.....i know it's not that good....
Rock & roll without a soul
a dying person without a name
Alice in wonderland without a spade
the cowardly lion without a heart
Did I mention the girl being pinned down
in balls & chains?
Did I forget the king that threatened the
slave & the maid?
Did I lie about the old man with a cane
or was it the old lady that wasn’t sane?
Your telling me these stories
folk & fiction, fantasy & sci-fi
Your giving me these names
who cannot tell a lie
Your demanding me to put on
an act and claim that I’m yours
Did I forget Mr. Washington
who chopped up a cherry tree for sure?
Did I mention the grinch who
stole the most famous holiday of all?
Did I lie about a house made of candy
that all the children get merry?
You’ve given up my rights & freedom
to stand before the court of law
tell them your decision for the fairest of them all
look into the broken mirror
tell me you haven’t done wrong
with a straight eye, no needle at all
late night Saturdays at the old
Rock & Bowl
staying up past midnight for
the neon glow & oldies music
look at the magazines and records up for show
see the rolling stones making music glow
you’ve shown me what its like
to fool around & step up to the plate
you’ve shown me what its like to be 28
while I’m only 15 going on my sweet 16
you’ve shown me what its like to be you
and live up life like it’s a dream
you’ve tried to drag me down with you
bring me down like I don’t have a name
bring me down like the towers of 9/11
raves with upside down styles
loud music & pretty colors
concerts with big speakers
sways of the standing crowd
shout outs & I love you’s
warp into the sound
I’m not comprehending where
you want us to be
over there-or-over here
under the tunnel or over the bridge
Las Vegas at the wedding chapel
eloping three years too early
or in a church 10 years from now
pop rocks & coke, popables & milk
cookies & cream, sugar & spice
Fenway park or Camden yards
Music & style, looks & money
big houses & Mercedes Benz
lower class & big red vans
