i just got The Eminem Show, and although it is very different from his last 2 l.p.'s in many ways, its still just as tyte, quick and passionatly raw as ever, if not more so....(props to you eM, its off tha hook!...you've blown mah mind, yes, once again.)
...one thing tho, in "saying goodbye to hollywood'', i got the impression that he's tired of tha game, has got the all the money he needs to ground himself and his daughter, and since winning custodoy of hailey, wants to get tha fuck out while his ratings are high......am i wrong? let us pray.....for life would feel just oh so empty without eM. :(

I doubt he'll leave the rap scene. He may stop making albums for a couple of years (or forever). But he'll still continue his label and producing etc. He'll probably guest on a few albums too.

I think he wrote this after he almost went to jail cause of that thing with Kim and the guy she kissed, and how he got arrested that night. so i think this is while he was takin the break between the marshall mathers lp and the eminem show. so i think this is the "sayin goodbye" that he did while he straightened out with the courts and the divorce and hailie. so i dont think hes leavin he cant this the 8mile comin out. you can also tell cause he was using past tense, lol. :p

The song is about when he got charged with the pistol whipping and shit and he thought he might have to go to jail and lose everything. It doesnt talk about him really leaving the rap game.

Whatever, I think this song is absolutely about leaving the spotlight for awhile because it's fucking him up and he can't focus on the important things that he needs to do right now.
I don't think he will really quit for good (in the song he even says 'for now'), but I think he needs to take some time off from the craziness his life has become since he made it big. But I think he'll be back- even if he wanted to I don't think he could stop rapping. But for a while at least I think this song says he's taking a break.
At first I was disapointed because I look forward to stuff from the artists I like, but honestly now I sorta hope he does because:
1) I think he's probably right and he probably does need a break, god knows I would. and
2) I don't think his music will stay at the same level of quality if he doesn't. Actually, I think the quality of his music has already suffered.
When I listen to this song it seems so obvious to me that a break is his intention (what part of 'say goodbye to hollywood' is confusing? lol) , it's really interesting to me that other people see it differently.
